I’m not a map person, but since I started writing I’ve tried my hand at making maps so many times and always felt like I’d failed. I’ve done tons of research, but this is the best and simplest explanation I’ve seen on how to build a map. Thank you!

Nothing irritates me more than a cover whose title and author’s names I can’t read because they’ve made the typography so swirly and curly that it’s a scrolly mess. This happens, sadly, too often in the romance genre. I just figure if they don’t want me to know this info, they don’t really want me to read it. For me, it’s like misspelling words or writing blurbs that make no sense – if you can’t get that right, I have to question your ability to make the content worth my time.
Thank you for pointing out what makes something work. Truly, more authors need to be aware of this.

Great article. I love poring over the maps that are in many fantasy novels. Jonathan, your tutorials are great. Very helpful for someone like me who hasn’t drawn a map in a couple of decades.

Great post. Las Vegas is really one of the best destinations in the United States… Sin city has a lot to offer when it comes to entertainment. I find most people associate Vegas to giant casinos too much nowadays. Sin City has some of the best nightlife clubs in the city and the nightclubs will only get better!
